Charter Spectrum Cable Neglects Latino Consumers by Dropping Univision and Not Carrying Fusion
Today, Univision’s stations went dark on Charter Spectrum cable systems and the National Hispanic Media Coalition released the following statement from Alex Nogales, president and CEO: “By denying access to Univision programming to its customers across the nation, and continuing not to offer Fusion, Charter Spectrum cable has shown little regard for its Latino subscribers. Univision is one of the largest broadcasters offering Spanish-language programming and our community relies on that content-especially in Los Angeles and other major cities where Latinos make up more than half of their residents. “Charter should be ashamed of itself for denying Spanish-language viewers access to Univision, especially during a time in which access to quality news coverage could not be more important. We must not forget that 6 in 10 Latinos are millennials and the vast majority speak English at home, school and work, so offering the culturally relevant program that Fusion offers in English is critical. We urge Charter to come back to the table and show their commitment to Latino viewers.”###
