We Choose Art and Mezz Gallery at the Montalbán Theatre, in collaboration with bG Gallery, is pleased to present "The Brown Oscars" by Artist, Linda Vallejo. "The Brown Oscars" exhibition is on view to the public from February 27 - March 12, 2018, with a special red carpet opening reception on Thursday, March 1, 2018 from 7 p.m. - 10 p.m., and an Oscars after party on Sunday, March 4, 2018 from 9 p.m. - 11 p.m (the artist will be present both evenings).
Vallejo's new body of work around the entertainment industry and its lack of diversity in casting, emerged from a previous series titled, "Make 'Em All Mexican" (#OscarsSoBrown). The Mezz Gallery at the Montalbán Theatre, is located at 1615 Vine St. Hollywood, CA. (Parking is available at 1627 Vine St. Hollywood, CA.)

NHMC Announces #OscarsSoWhite Protests
On January 23rd, the NHMC Action Network announced at its press conference that it will hold two demonstrations targeting studio film executives attending the very visible Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' events. The demonstrations launch a national campaign protesting the chronic underrepresentation of Latinos in on-screen and behind-the-camera roles in motion pictures.
"Hollywood continues to be challenged by gender and ethnic diversity," said Alex Nogales, NHMC president and CEO. "Our upcoming demonstrations are only the first of what will become increasingly aggressive wake-up calls to Hollywood executives to end the exclusion of Latinos in the industry. By targeting the very important and visible Academy events, we're publicly serving notice to the motion picture executives that we're not asking for equity anymore. We're demanding it."
The first demonstration was held February 5th at the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences' Honoree Luncheon. To view photos from the protest, click here. The demonstration was covered by multiple media outlets, including Deadline, New York Times, KPCC, Latina, and many others.
A second demonstration will be held on March 3rd, location to be determined.

FCC Grants NHMC's Motion For Extension of Time to Comment on Proposed Changes to Lifeline
In December 2017, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) published a series of proposals that will drastically transform Lifeline, the only federal program that provides a telecommunications subsidy to low-income Americans. Notably, the proposals would remove non-facilities based providers from the program eliminating service for 70 percent of current Lifeline recipients.
NHMC Will Continue to Rally Support for the Net Neutrality CRA Until the Free & Open Internet Is Restored
NHMC is committed to the fight to restore a free and open Internet. In addition to its commitment to challenge the FCC's decision in court, NHMC has joined forces with other civil rights organizations to support Congressional efforts to reinstate Net Neutrality. Senator Ed Markey and Congressman Mike Doyle are leading the charge with a Congressional Review Act (CRA), a legislative vehicle that allows Congress to overrule the FCC's decision.

NHMC Writers Update
NHMC would like to congratulate NHMC TV Writers Program participant Zayre Ferrer on her new series Tijuana! The series is part of a partnership between Netflix and Univision's Fusion Media Group.
According to Variety, "...Tijuana begins when a presidential front-runner is gunned down in the streets. As reporters of a local newspaper seek answers to the assassination, they uncover a web of corruption that puts their lives in danger." Congrats Zayre. We can't wait to watch the show!

NHMC Welcomes New Board Member & Business Advisory Board Members

The former television news anchor is the owner/principal of Minerva Pérez Media, LLC, a Sugar Land, Texas-based video production firm.
In addition to Minerva joining the board, Beatriz Acevedo, founding partner and president of mitú, and Philip Sanchez, vice president and relationship manager at City National Bank, were added to the NHMC
Business Advisory Board.
