Washington, DC -- Today, the National Hispanic Media Coalition announced key staff changes to their DC policy team. Francella Ochillo is NHMC’s Vice President of Policy and General Counsel - a role she has served since August - and Daiquiri Ryan joined last week as policy counsel. Together, they will continue to represent the communications needs of Latino communities in Washington before Congress and federal agencies. In 2019, under Ochillo’s leadership, the National Hispanic Media Coalition’s policy team will focus on expanding connectivity, protecting digital rights, and combating hate speech online.
“We’re proud of what we have achieved this year to draw attention to the importance of restoring Net Neutrality, combating hate speech online, understanding threats to media diversity, and rebuilding telecom infrastructure in Puerto Rico,” said Francella Ochillo, Vice President of Policy and General Counsel at the National Hispanic Media Coalition. “I’m excited to welcome Daiquiri Ryan back to the NHMC family as we continue to stand up for people of color who are fighting for their voices to be heard on the airwaves and online.” Daiquiri Ryan, who worked at the National Hispanic Media Coalition as a Univision Policy Fellow in 2015, returns to NHMC following her policy fellowship at Public Knowledge. At Public Knowledge, she worked to expand broadband access to rural and low-income Americans, preserve an open internet, and restore communications infrastructure in Puerto Rico. She brings valuable experience to the team on a range of telecommunications policy issues from her time interning at Amazon and as a Google Policy Fellow.
“I am thrilled to be back at NHMC where my journey into the telecom policy world truly began as a law student,” said Daiquiri Ryan, Policy Counsel at the National Hispanic Media Coalition. “As a Latina advocate, it is going to be a truly fulfilling experience to advance digital rights and access to 21st century communications for the Latino community. I look forward to creating new relationships and inspire existing ones to fight the good fight in my new role at NHMC.”
Univision Fellows Roxanna Barboza and Jacqueline Escabedo-Galeno, who joined NHMC in September, support the DC policy team on projects related to Lifeline, hate speech, privacy, and digital access.
