On April 2, 2019, the National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) joined over 80 digital rights advocacy groups in a letter supporting the 2019 Save the Internet Act. The Act would restore the 2015 Open Internet Order net neutrality protections (no blocking, no throttling, and no paid prioritization) and reinstate stronger transparency rules. Under the Act, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) would also resume regulatory authority over the internet and responsibility for policing Internet Service Provider conduct. As NHMC and co-plaintiffs seek redress in court to overturn the FCC’s net neutrality repeal, the Save the Internet Act would reaffirm Congress’ support and intent for a free and open internet. As stated in the letter, “Americans want and deserve enforceable protections that preserve net neutrality, ensure stronger broadband competition, and improve access. They want more choices and more affordable internet access service.” Click here to review the letter.
