Latinos, immigrants, and other marginalized communities have been historically undercounted, which is rationalized by categorizing them as “hard to count.” For instance, 400,000 Latino children were not counted nationwide in the 2010 Census. The Census Bureau and the federal government should be focused on how to include everyone in the 2020 Census count instead of including exclusionary questions that target vulnerable, American communities.
NHMC joined an amicus brief against the Census Bureau’s proposed citizenship question and continues to fight alongside allies to protect the Latino community.
