Statement on Behalf of Brenda Victoria Castillo, President and CEO, National Hispanic Media Coalition on NHMC’s 2024 Policy Priorities
As we continue into the new year, the National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) is proud to share our 2024 Policy Priorities that build off of our theme for the year: Human Rights Ensure Human Stories. We at NHMC understand that this year will be pivotal for our country; these priorities aim to tackle the issues that our communities face head-on by leaning on the pillars of truth, dignity, and respect that our Latine community deserves.
NHMC’s 2024 Policy Priorities focus on the ever-changing landscape of the technology industry, from diversity in gaming content to industry participation and advocating for the ethical development and use of AI, to stopping the spread of disinformation in Spanish which targets our community.
Our work this year will focus on pushing forward policy initiatives and progressive change that move the needle on access to the internet as a human right while ensuring equity, sustainability, purpose, and training for those who do have access to the internet. As always, we will stay true to our mission of advocating for increased representation in Hollywood and Washington, D.C. in 2024, which includes releasing a media guide that will advise the media portrayal of Latine communities with authenticity and depth.
NHMC Policy Priorities Fall in the following Pillars:
Above all, NHMC’s 2024 Policy Priorities underscore the core values and issue areas that make us human and uphold the essence of our collective humanity. We are energized by the priorities outlined below and look forward to continuing to be a voice for our communities as we navigate this important year.
