PASADENA, Calif. - Last week Comcast Corporation announced plans to buy Time Warner Cable for $45 billion. The following statement may be attributed to NHMC's President and CEO, Alex Nogales, who sits on Comcast's National Hispanic Advisory Council:
"NHMC staff is in the process of evaluating this proposal. In particular, NHMC is studying whether Comcast has fulfilled all of the commitments it made to the Latino community in the context of its acquisition of NBC Universal a few years back, both in the MOU that I signed with Comcast at the time, and in the FCC-imposed public interest obligations. I assure all parties involved that NHMC will, as always, work to ensure that the voice of the Latino community is heard throughout this process both by the companies involved in the transaction and by the regulators who will ultimately decide whether or not the deal should be allowed to proceed."
