Lomeli Joins As Policy Associate, Scurato Promoted to Vice President
(Washington, D.C, – 7/30/15) – The National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) is excited to announce additions to its Washington, D.C., office, which will strengthen a team that gives voice to Latinos issues on media and telecommunications before decision makers on the Congressional level, at the Federal Communications Commission and at other federal agencies. The D.C. office focuses policies to eliminate hate speech in media, increase Latino media ownership, protect Net Neutrality and expand affordable broadband access, among other things.
Andy Lomeli, a former NHMC Policy Fellow, will rejoin NHMC as its Policy Associate. Lomeli has worked in telecommunications policy for several years at both the federal and state levels. Most recently, he helped manage California LifeLine at the
California Public Utilities Commission and worked in government affairs and public outreach at Public Knowledge in Washington, D.C.
Lomeli has a master’s degree in public policy from University of California, Berkeley, and an undergraduate degree from Stanford University. He is a proud graduate of both the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute and the Public Policy and International Affairs Institute Program.
"Andy will be a tremendous asset to our D.C. policy team,” said Michael Scurato, NHMC’s new Vice President of Policy. “Through his prior experience, both in the public and nonprofit sectors, he has earned a great reputation for his insight and work ethic. I'm confident that he will be able to immediately contribute to the work of NHMC."
After five years with NHMC and two years as Policy Director,
Scurato has been promoted to Vice President of Policy. A graduate of Georgetown University Law Center, Scurato represented the public interest in media and telecommunications law issues at the Institute for Public Representation, one of Georgetown’s renowned legal clinics. Scurato will continue to lead NHMC's legal and policy advocacy in D.C., as well as join upper management in steering the direction and strategic plans of NHMC.

Finally, NHMC’s current Google Policy Fellow,
Daiquiri Ryan, will extend her tenure with NHMC. A rising second-year law student at The George Washington University Law School, Ryan has participated in the Student Bar Association’s Election and Student Affairs Committees, GW Street Law and the Hispanic Law Student Association. Daiquiri Ryan will continue working with NHMC as a Policy Fellow through the end of the year.]]>
