Over 100 industry leaders gathered to recognize local talent in New York — the largest designated market area (DMA) in the country — for their outstanding achievements and contributions to the region’s Latino community: • Lynda Baquero, NBC 4 New York reporter - Excellence in Broadcast Journalism • Esteban Creste, Univision 41 news director - Excellence in Broadcast Journalism • Cynthia López, Commissioner of the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment - Outstanding Public Service • Jeanine Ramirez, NY1 News reporter - Excellence in Broadcast Journalism • Joe Torres, WABC-TV reporter and anchor - Excellence in Broadcast Journalism "We are very honored to have recognized such talented leaders and media professionals from the New York area. NHMC looks forward to continuing this tradition in the coming years," mentioned Alex Nogales, President and CEO of NHMC. "This was one of the most emotional and high level, diverse crowds we have seen gathered in New York for a long time. Veteran and new journalists and industry leaders hugged each other in solidarity with one another," added Marta Garcia, Vice Chair of NHMC's Board of Directors. “The more than 3 million Latinos in the New York market are a formidable force that the city’s media is increasingly acknowledging. The NMHC’s presence in this media center assures that the Latino experience will be taken seriously,” explained Angelo Falcón, NHMC Board member and President of the National Institute for Latino Policy (NiLP). "Together we are stronger than being apart," Commissioner López remarked during her acceptance speech about the importance of unity within the Latino community when facing difficult times.
