FCC postponed a vote on its proposed set-top box order, which would have created more competition for consumers in the set-top box market, passing along significant annual cash savings to consumers. The Commission could vote on the item any day now. On October 27, the FCC is also scheduled to vote on new privacy rules that would limit broadband providers' ability to use and share subscriber data. The Commission is also currently investigating abusive data caps and zero-rating plans that may violate net neutrality rules. NHMC and its allies have asked the FCC to move forward with each of these initiatives by voting to implement set-top box competition, stronger broadband privacy rules, and consumer protections against services that potentially undermine net neutrality. “Each of these issues has been discussed by policymakers for years, if not decades. Further delay would put internet users’ privacy in jeopardy and undermine longstanding efforts to make internet, cable and satellite services more affordable and open.” the letter says. https://www.nhmc.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/2016-10-Public-Interest-FCC-Letter-FINAL-1.pdf]]>
