FCC's Broadband Privacy Rules Help Protect Communities of Color, NHMC Urges for More to be Done For Diverse Programmers
Today, the Federal Communications Commission passed a rule in a 3-2 decision to give internet users more choice over how broadband providers use their private information. The National Hispanic Media Coalition, as part of the Voices for Internet Freedom Coalition, has worked to pressure the FCC for stronger internet privacy protections, affordable access to the internet and greater opportunity for creators of color to connect with audiences. Said Jessica J. González, executive vice president and general counsel for the National Hispanic Media Coalition: "We applaud the FCC's action to put the decision to use the private, personal information of consumers back into our hands. We should always have the power to control what kind of information is being collected about us, how it is being shared and with whom. We look forward to working with the commission to develop these rules into practices that will earn back the trust of Latinos."###
