Congratulations FCC Chairwoman Rosenworcel!
A Statement from Brenda Victoria Castillo, President & CEO of the National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC)
Today the United States Senate confirmed Jessica Rosenworcel as Chair of the Federal Communications Commission as the first woman Chair in the Commission’s history. NHMC applauds the Chairwoman for her commitment to our nation’s consumers and closing the digital divide.
Chairwoman Rosenworcel’s work to close the “Homework Gap,” through the E-Rate program, provided our schoolchildren reliable access to broadband and online resources for their studies. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, when reliable access to broadband and online services became paramount to function in everyday life, Chairwoman Rosenworcel led the deployment and outreach efforts of the Emergency Broadband Benefit (EBB) program that provided internet access to numerous households. As a third of Latinx households lack access to the internet, the continuity of her steadfast leadership will ensure the rapid deployment of broadband infrastructure and equitable implementation of programs such as the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) for Latino, BIPOC, and other underserved communities to close the digital divide.
From one first-woman-leader to another, I am incredibly proud to support Chairwoman Rosenworcel, and we look forward to working with her office to fight for and defend the digital rights of the Latinx community.
Yours in the Movement,
Brenda Victoria Castillo
