From Deadline: Dafne Keen & Samantha Lorraine To Star In Jay Hernandez’s Horror Thriller ‘Night Comes’

Hailing from Impossible Dream Entertainment and the Canadian production and financing outfit Big Picture Cinema Group, the film unfolds against the backdrop of a cataclysmic event that threatens to engulf humanity. Two sisters manage to escape the horror only to find themselves thrust into a perilous struggle for survival, tasked with a mission that holds the fate of mankind in the balance.”

In the much-anticipated return to the iconic dystopian world created more than 30 years ago with the seminal “Mad Max” films, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga features Anya Taylor-Joy in the title role of “Furiosa.”

As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus, played by Chris Hemsworth. Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe (Tom Burke). While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.

Part comedy, part social commentary, part travelogue, Roots of Comedy with Jesus Trejo follows host, Mexican-American comedian Jesus Trejo, as he embarks on an emotional odyssey and telling the “stories behind the laughs,” revealing how the most memorable comedy traces back to the roots of a community with themes that are central to the series. Along his journey, Trejo visits six U.S. regions (Denver, Portland, Minneapolis, Austin, Los Angeles, and Chinle, Arizona) where he meets with six rising comedians, Ali Sultan, Vanessa Gonzalez, Eeland Stribling, Tatanka Means, Adam Pasi, and Sierra Katow, who explore the mosaic of our nation through the lens of stand-up comedy.

CALLING ALL SOCIAL JUSTICE ACTIVISTS & FILMMAKERS!

The NAACP presents the 2024 “ALL IN” Cinematic Shorts Competition; taking place during the 115th NAACP Convention in Las Vegas, NV from July 13th - July 17th, 2024.

This exciting competition will give six (6) filmmakers the opportunity to produce a short film addressing issues of social justice.

Paired in teams of two, the filmmakers will receive equipment and work under the guidance of a professional mentor to produce a 5-7 minute short film. The short films can be narrative, documentary or avant-garde; and will explore one of the following topics: 

  • Healthcare inequity
  • Health & wealth gap
  • Critical Race Theory & current environment of book banning
  • Anti-Semitism/ white nationalism/rise of hate crimes
  • Reproductive Freedom
  • Affirmative Action + education access
  • Voting Rights/ Election reform/ gerrymandering
  • Climate Crisis & its effects on communities of color locally & globally
  • Gun violence + legislative reform vs. NRA

At the conclusion of the 115th Convention, participating filmmakers will present their finished short films and attendees will vote for their favorite film.  The winning filmmakers will each be awarded a $10K grant to produce a short film in conjunction with the NAACP Hollywood Bureau and NAACP+ Studios.

In addition, ALL the filmmakers in this year’s cohort will receive an all-expense paid trip to Los Angeles to attend the 56th NAACP Image Awards, where they will walk the red carpet, and attend informational meetings with industry executives.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

●  Must be between the ages of 18-29 by June 3rd, 2024.

●  Must submit one creative sample  (short film, commercial or photography) that demonstrates your skill set as a filmmaker.

●  Must submit a written statement between 250-300 words answering ONE of the essay questions below.

●  Must provide your own transportation to and from Las Vegas, NV for the competition. (Local hotel accommodations will be provided for selected filmmakers/activists based on double occupancy).

NAACP Empowerment Programs, Inc. shall be the exclusive owner, including without limitation, owner of all intellectual property rights, in all films, including all footage shot or edited as part of the competition or with equipment furnished as part of the competition.
