WASHINGTON, D.C. - November 8, 2023 – The National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) today announced it will be hosting its annual Impact Awards Reception in Washington D.C. this evening. Hosted by Sports Anchor and reporter Brandy Flores, the evening recognizes policymakers and leaders who are working to bridge the digital divide, enact policies that protect Latinx and other marginalized communities, and safeguard the democracy of the United States.
The NHMC Impact Awards Reception will celebrate the voices that amplify NHMC’s efforts as it examines new ways for policy to serve Latino audiences and other marginalized communities - from analyzing telecommunications policies and proceedings to testifying before Congress and government agencies and engage decision-makers, to supporting programs that bring phone and internet service within reach for low-income families. It will honor those who are working to preserve the media landscape as a place where we can share our stories and hold networks accountable for increasing diversity, eliminating divisive hate speech against members of our community, and fighting against censorship and the banning of literary materials.
This year’s honorees include:
Representative Nanette Barragán (D-CA 44th District) will be honored for the Congressional Hispanic Caucus’ continued investments in Latino communities under her leadership - from driving home the message on legislative wins that have delivered federal funds to improve infrastructure, provide access to healthcare, advocate for Veterans, and address environmental justice concerns in Latino communities, to working to increase Latino representation across all industries and the federal government to ensure the federal government improves the lives of Latino communities nationwide. Anna M. Gomez will be honored in celebration of being the first Latina-American to be confirmed to the FCC in over two decades. Adobe will be honored for spearheading The Content Authenticity Initiative, a free online program for creators, technologists, journalists, and activists that are leading the global effort to address digital misinformation and content authenticity. Amy Hinojosa will be honored for her work strengthening Latina leaders and the community through mentorship, education, and advocacy through her leadership of MANA.
Natalie Montelongo will be honored for her work on electoral that has influenced progressive policies, and mobilized communities of color to the polls - from launching national initiatives aimed at harnessing the power of the Latina vote and voice to being the mind behind Hillary Clinton’s “Mujeres in Politics'' and Elizabeth Warren’s “Latinas Fight, Latinas Win”. Steve Haro rounds out the list of honorees for his impressive two-decade career of government service, political campaign management, and corporate consulting, with his policy work in both Congress and the executive branch spanning countless issues, challenges, and disciplines.
“NHMC is pleased to honor individuals pushing for systemic change across legislation to protect our communities,” said Brenda Victoria Castillo, President & CEO of NHMC. “Now more than ever, it is important to come together and celebrate the voices that amplify the Hispanic and Latinx communities and create a more inclusive and diverse community, ensuring that our voices are represented at the table.”

About The National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC)
NHMC is a woman-led non-profit civil and human rights organization that was founded to eliminate hate, discrimination, and racism toward Latino communities.
We educate and increase Latino visibility, from our policy work in Washington, D.C., to our media advocacy work in Hollywood, where we collaborate, create, and connect Latino talent with the entertainment industry. At NHMC, we focus on all forms of media because it is one of the most influential and powerful institutions that shape society’s attitudes, values, and beliefs.
We have a number of initiatives dedicated to building bridges within our community, including our Series Scriptwriters Program, which has helped launch the careers of more than 200 Latinx writers. For over ten years, our Latinx Stream Showcase has also helped launch 300+ Latinx creators’ careers in front and behind the camera. The program showcases 4-5 short films written by, starred in, and directed by Latinos.
We lead the work to eliminate online hate and disinformation across media platforms. We advocate for the Affordable Connectivity Program, Lifeline Program, Net Neutrality protections, and closing the digital divide for Latino and other marginalized communities. NHMC works in partnership with other social justice organizations to safeguard democracy in the United States of America.
