LOS ANGELES, CA. – As a way to address the perpetual and overwhelming absence of American Latinos in television, the National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) held its 7th annual Latino Scene Showcase on Wednesday, June 26th highlighting talented Latinos who wrote, directed, and performed six comedic scenes with nuanced characters and storylines before an audience of 400+ Hollywood talent agents, casting directors, managers and other industry executives.
"This year's showcase was a tremendous success. The talent was remarkable, the performances were memorable. The showcase demonstrated that there is raw, serious talent within the Latino community - on screen and off. Even more importantly, it proved that Latinos cannot be marginalized in the creative process any longer.
Hollywood is a business at its core and media executives, in recent years, have had opportunities to recognize that diverse casts are profitable on the small and big screens. Audiences are hungry for stories that focus on underrepresented communities of color, and it is up to studio heads to listen and respond to what people actually want."

"We know that a diverse, informed leadership and workforce is crucial to ensuring that everyone’s voices are heard. From the NHMC TV Writers Program to the Policy Fellowship, Univision is excited about the next generation of Latino leaders who will shape our industry in the years to come. The Showcase is the perfect venue to exhibit the talent, creativity, and innovation that Latinos have to offer our industry, regardless of language. Univision congratulates the NHMC, Alex Nogales, and Brenda Castillo for promoting Hispanic America’s next generation of content creators.”
