Dear NHMC Friends & Advocates,
If you are like us, you must be thrilled for the premiere of the upcoming Warner Bros. film, In The Heights. The National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) has been a proud supporter of the film as a member of the Warner Bros. In the Heights Advisory Council, alongside other advocacy organizations.
Please join us by showing your support this coming weekend of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s film In The Heights! Open weekend ticket sales are a strong indicator of a film's overall financial success. That is why it is so important that we UNITE and show our financial support for a film that has Latinx in front and behind the camera, along with positive strong Latina characters, and that captures the complexities of what it means to be from the Latinx communities.
There are various ways you all can support our outreach efforts for In The Heights:
  • Take some time this weekend to visit the movie theatre and watch In The Heights! Make it a family event and Invite your friends, family, tias, tios, compadres, comadres, etc.
  • Amplify In the Heights on Social Media. Share the trailer and encourage others to go support this film.
  • Please consider joining #LatinxGoldOpen, to ensure the opening weekend success of Latino films across the country. This effort is led by Warner Bros. In the Heights Advisory council members Ben Lopez, NALIP & Bing Chen, Gold House
  • You can host an entire movie screening on opening weekend for as little as $600 dollars or buy 30+ tickets to amplify the authentic efforts of our Latinx storytellers. Invite your family, friends, work colleagues or donate the tickets to your local non-profits, schools, church, synagogue, etc.
NHMC will be showing up in large volumes at the Burbank AMC theatre this Saturday, June 12th. We look forward to having you join the movement to support In The Heights!

Yours in the Movement,

In The Heights came in with $11.5M Opening Weekend:

There is still time to join the movement

This past weekend The National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC), along with many other advocacy organizations nationwide teamed up to buy out movie theaters to screen the much anticipated film, In The Heights.
Amid an ongoing global pandemic, audiences still showed up to the box office–from Burbank, CA to Washington, DC – and demonstrated that we need more films with Latinx representation. Check out this recap video of NHMC's Screening of In The Heights below!

Our joint effort goes beyond making one movie a success. Our goal is simple: tell more Latinx stories by Latinx creators.
There is power in unity and when one succeeds, we all succeed. There is so much richness and culture among the very diverse community that are Latinx–so many experiences yet to be shared. We are so much more than the stereotypes we have been portrayed as for far too long.
In The Heights is where we start.
Let's continue to show up for our communities!
